Agri-Food Sciences

Agricultural Research Institute, (IIA, for its acronym in Spanish)

It is an academic unit of multidisciplinary nature devoted to the research in agricultural sciences and those related, whose objective is to contribute in the search of integral development of the country.

Objectives

  • To contribute in the search of the integral development of the country through A. the carrying out of research, preferably with a multidisciplinary scope, in search of scientific and technological progress in agriculture, livestock, and related fields. B. The integration of research with all academic areas, especially in graduate programs, and with social outreach, scientific dissemination, teaching expansion and technology transference. C. The integration of the resources of the University of Costa Rica with those of the institutions and companies of national and international agricultural sectors, in those actions in which this joint effort constitutes the best means to develop and modernize Costa Rican agriculture and welfare of the rural population.

Main functions

  • To serve as a liaison unit between the research centers and the experimental stations ascribed to the College of Agri-Food Sciences of the UCR.
  • To disseminate the main results of the research generated in the research units mentioned above.
  • To serve as a link between the academic and productive sectors of the country in all agri-food sciences.

  • Dissemination and promotion of different activities carried out in the College of Agri-Food Sciences through website, electronic bulletin, Facebook, among others.
  • A space for academic and study activities.
  • Dissemination of research work of the academic units of the College of Agrifood Sciences
