Agri-Food Sciences

Agricultural Research Institute, (IIA, for its acronym in Spanish)

It is an academic unit of multidisciplinary nature devoted to the research in agricultural sciences and those related, whose objective is to contribute in the search of integral development of the country.

Objectives

  • To contribute in the search of the integral development of the country through A. the carrying out of research, preferably of a multidisciplinary nature, in search of scientific and technological progress in agriculture, livestock, and related fields. B. The integration of research with all areas of teaching, especially in postgraduate programs, and with social action, scientific dissemination, teaching expansion and technology transference. C. The integration of the resources of the University of Costa Rica with those of the institutions and companies of the national and international agricultural sectors, in those actions in which this combination of resources constitutes the best means to develop and modernize Costa Rican agriculture and welfare of the rural population.

Main functions

  • To serve as a liaison unit between the research centers and the experimental stations attached to the Faculty of Agri-Food Sciences of the UCR.
  • To disseminate the main results of the research generated in the research units mentioned above.
  • To serve as a link between the academic and productive sectors of the country in the fields of agri-food sciences.

Services

Non Remunerated

  • Dissemination and promotion of the different activities that are carried out in the Faculty of Agri-Food Sciences through website, electronic bulletin, Facebook, among others.
  • To provide university personnel and students with a space for academic and study activities.
  • The Library of Agri-Food Sciences is located on the second floor of the building.
  • Dissemination of research in the units of the Faculty of Agri-Food Sciences.
